Beneficiation

One of the most crucial aspects of minerals processing has always been beneficiation, which ultimately impacts the economic value of an orebody. The importance of beneficiation has increased in recent years as ore bodies reduce in grade and clients look to improve project value and reduce carbon emissions.

Orway offers clients complete process design, modelling and optimisation services in beneficiation.  Orway's experience in beneficiation includes flotation, gravity separation and ore sorting.

  • Orway’s areas of expertise for flotation include base metal and refractory gold ore flotation. Techniques include bulk, differential collective/selective methods and controlled potential sulphidisation, applied at the laboratory, pilot plant or full-scale plant.

Our full-scale project experience comes from the design and commissioning of plants worldwide, including the following minerals:

    • Phosphate ores: apatite

    • Cobalt: carrolite and cobaltiferrous pyrite

    • Copper: oxides and sulphides

    • Gold: pyrite and arsenopyrite

    • Graphite

    • Lead: galena and cerussite

    • Nickel: pentlandite, niccolite and violarite

    • PGM: associated with pentlandite/chalcopyrite

    • Zinc: sphalerite and marmatite

  • Orway has extensive experience and understanding of gravity separation throughout the gold, nickel, iron ore and mineral sands industries.

Equipment such as cones, spirals, jigs, tables and centrifugal concentrators are easily incorporated into our detailed process selection and design methodology as required by the client's specific design brief.

Within this framework, Orway can provide modelling and guidance with:

    • Testwork specification and analysis

    • Flowsheet integration

    • Equipment selection

    • Commissioning

    • Audit and optimisation

    • Process control optimisation

  • Orway has worked on numerous projects involving ore sorting using client-supplied and vendor testwork data.  Ore sorting, undertaken on coarser particles, is intrinsically associated with comminution processes, and preparation of the feed often has a significant impact on final recovery.  Orway uses its comminution experience and models to integrate testwork and ore sorting modules into flowsheets to produce process flow diagrams, mass balances and grade/recovery predictions for engineering design.
