OMC’s scope of work was to optimize the existing comminution circuit at the Geita Gold Mine.
The circuit consisted of an open circuit gyratory crusher (42/70), open circuit secondary crushers (2 x CH660 Sandvik) for crushing part of the new feed to an SABC circuit. The SAG and ball mills (both 9MW) operated predominately in SAB configuration since the recycle crusher could not be operated with adequate metal protection because of the presence of magnetic ore.
The high competency of the baded iron formation ore reporting to the pebble stream, made it impossible to separate steel from the scats, thus leaving the recycle crusher inoperable.
Extensive changes to operating philosophy to stabilize the mill and classification circuit control. Changes resulted in greater consistency in throughput and significant maintenance savings.
Extensions to the partial crushing circuit was also recommended and subsequently implemented.
